LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear all
I am pleased to present you our latest edition of SALA online. I believe that we have again succeeded in finding good contributions that are relevant to our interests and our work at the National Museum Bangkok. As always, I am proud that also this edition of SALA came into being thanks to the cooperation of our members. And I do not just mean the writing, but also the photos and the design. My thanks go to everyone who participated in the creation of this SALA.
The past few months have been difficult for the NMV. Nevertheless, our members remained loyal to us and renewed their memberships. Thank you so much! And we also have new registrations, people who join us because they are interested in Thai culture and history. They recognize in us an organization that meets their expectations and needs.
Even though we could not guide, we were still active. The French Guiding Workshop started in October 2020 with around 30 participants. The Japanese workshops have been running for a long time. In November 2020 we showed several Buddhist films at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand. At the beginning of 2021 we resumed our traditional 'Neighbourhood Walks'. And now, at the beginning of March 2021, the English and German Guiding Workshops start, which also have more than 30 participants. In addition, we keep the NMV library open on a regular basis. By the way, guiding has not completely fallen asleep. There are always requests for special tours, which we are happy to take on.
Anyone who has recently visited the museum will have noticed that the Fine Arts Department and the museum management are putting a lot of effort into the ongoing renovation of the museum. One can only congratulate them for all these attractive measures, with which the National Museum Bangkok is further consolidating its position as the most important art and culture museum in Southeast Asia.
In this context, I am pleased to welcome the new director of the Bangkok National Museum and to extend a warm welcome to her among the National Museum Volunteers. Mrs. Nipa Sangkhanakin comes to us from the Somdet Phra Narai National Museum Lopburi. The NMV wishes her all the best in her new position. We will introduce Khun Nipa to you in our next SALA.
I wish you all the best and hope to see you soon. Take care, stay safe.
Peter
